Grubhub Jobs: Getting Started in On-Demand Delivery

There’s nothing new to the idea of an on-demand delivery service. The only thing that is truly different now is that you don’t need to be part of a centralized agency. You can become a delivery person on any of the platforms offered in your area. While not all of these services are going to available in your area, starting your search with these companies will give you a leg up on your search.

Grubhub

Grubhub is one of the first delivery companies of its kind in the marketplace. With Grubhub, you'll deliver food from restaurants in your area without being stuck delivering for one company. You'll set your own schedule and you'll keep 100% of your tips. They also claim to have more orders than any other company like them, and that means more earnings for you.

UberEATS

UberEATS is the Uber entry into the on-demand food delivery market. There are currently two different versions of the app - one which allows customers to order from a small, pre-determined menu, and one with expanded features. If you are interested in also driving Uber, this could be a way to combine the work that you're already doing in your car with a different revenue stream without getting to know a new company.

Orderup

Orderup puts their potential drivers through a fairly rigorous vetting process, including a phone call with the company. Not something that you're going to run into with a lot of these other companies. However, they do say that they can get you on the road in 7-14 days, so getting started isn't going to take too much time.

Postmates

Postmates offers delivery of more than just food. Their website claims you can start making money immediately, and they advertise earnings of up to $25 per hour. Tipping is allowed on the platform, which really helps the bottom line. You also don't have to drive on the platform - they make available all sorts of transit options, though depending on what you choose this will impact what you are able to deliver.

Instacart

Instacart is a service for customers to get groceries and to cut the time they spend at the grocery store out of their life. You have multiple ways to work for Instacart - you can work either as a part-time employee of the company or as an independent contractor. You can work with a car or without a car. As far as these part time delivery type jobs go, this is certainly the one that carries with it the most flexibility. In order to get on the platform and start working, you'll need to fill out an application and attend an in-person orientation.

Conclusion

There are plenty of services across the globe that do essentially what these apps do. Which one works for you is going to depend on your needs, your schedule, and your geographic area.
